Smart Home Technology For Peace Of Mind
Our client, who recently purchased their home was looking for a way to stay connected and ensure everything was OK while they were traveling. This individual traveled quite extensively for work, and had to consistently setup timers for lights, and rely on an antiquated home security system. This lead them to be concerned about the status of their home when away, and the frustration with lights being setup on timers regularly.
After consulting with them on a solution, the individual decided to have an entire Smart Home system installed by the My Boston Handyman crew. First step was installing a new Ring alarm system and digital monitoring. The system comprised of window sensors on every window of every floor, glass break sensors in area’s where window sensors weren’t possible, and motion sensors at the entry doors and hallways.
In addition to the alarm system, My Boston Handyman installed ring cameras in various area’s of the house including two basement cameras, a Ring doorbell camera, floodlight camera, and wireless exterior camera. The resulting coverage encompasses each corner of the house. For added peace of mind, a smart door lock was also installed with app connectivity so they could verify their door was locked on the go.
Next, we focused on the home lighting to help remove the inconvenience of the dimmer, while providing lighting throughout the home. The solution was a Lutron Caseta smart switch system. With the Lutron smart switches, they were able to setup scenes which has various lights turn on and off at any time all from their phone. Since the switches are connected to the lights themselves, you don’t have to worry about a timer malfunction.
When they leave, they turn the scene’s on and the lights will turn on and off automatically at set times, and this is done throughout the house to provide the feeling that someone was always home. After that, we installed and programed an Amazon Alex Echo Studio, which was programmed to play music at certain intervals.
The final portion of the smart home installation were First Alert Connected Smoke and CO alarms, and a Ring Alarm listener. With most older homes, the existing smoke detectors were not hardwired, and if one was activated in an area of the home, the others would not automatically alert the owner of potential danger. With the new smoke detector’s, if one goes off, they will all go off, and provide audio alerts to exactly what has happened (Carbon Monoxide detected, smoke detected, etc.) With the Ring listener on a Ring monitored alarm system, Ring will also automatically contact them and the appropriate authorities.
